Pretty pastels.
As the weather brightens up I’m starting to look in my wardrobe and feel a bit ‘humph’. My clothes are black and dark and I just feel a bit drab! So my black buckled leather ankle boots, huge tartan scarf and big textured boyfriend fit coat got me through those winter months, but now I feel like it could be time to come out of hibernation.
I wanted a new jacket - something light, but still fairly smart. I always wear a scarf, so for me, a matching scarf is essential. I found the perfect combo in River Island. (Coat £40.00, Scarf £18.00)

I love the long length of this jacket as I’m taller than average (5’9ft) and I like a longer fit. It’s slim line and both casual and smart. The shade will go with everything. I then saw the scarf. I first spotted this scarf in the New Year, but I resisted as it still felt a little too bright for the wintery depths of January. The colours are fabulous; blues, greys, camel, pink, nude. But it’s the Aztec style print which I really fell for. The accents of powder blue will look great with denim and I know I am going to wear it A LOT.
Next I needed to update my footwear. Chunky black ankle boots feel too heavy now. I tried a few brogues, and various slip-ons but I always put comfort first. I hate rigid shoes which leave you with blisters on your toes and heel. I like soft materials which don’t require any ‘wearing in’. That’s why I went for the classic nude ballet pump from Topshop (£16.00). OK so they’re not weather proof and they’ll only last the spring, but they are comfortable, colour friendly and a steal at under £20.

I am a bit of a magpie when it comes to jewellery. The more shiny and colourful the better. I spotted these earrings (£7.50) and I could not resist. On trend fan style, multi coloured and unique I had to have them in my life! I then spotted a great necklace (£12.50) which I know will look great paired with the earrings – so I bagged them both. I can’t wait to spruce up a boring neckline with these beauties!
Last on my list of needs was a ‘date-night’ dress. My fiancé and I are going for a meal next weekend, and then we will be moving on to cocktails and wine bars. Since having a baby and completely losing all self-esteem I find it really difficult to choose something to wear on a night out – luckily these nights out are few and far between! This dress from River Island (£35.00) really does hide my wobbly bits. The arms are a great length to cover my bingo wings (attractive), and the round scoop neckline will flatter hair up or down. The waist is drawn in under the bust at your smallest part, and then there is a slight flare at the waist. It is very flattering and covers my mum-tum which I have not yet had the energy to shift! I will wear this with opaque black tights and black courts – but I know this will look great with all colours. I love nautical stripes, navy and white just seems to suit everyone and all lip colours – especially red. I bought a simple gold and silver necklace from Topshop (£14.50) – I love jewellery with two metals because it allows me to choose from all of my other jewellery (gold and silver) to add to the look.
I am now officially broke… but I did spot a gorgeous pink bag in River Island…
