Pure, honest, effective, vegan, natural, affordable and cruelty free.
After trying the full A. B. C. Skincare regime along with a couple of other skin care products I was excited to try Tamanu Balm. Early on this product gained a lot of attention in the media; most recently Tamanu Balm won the Beauty Shortlist Award for Best Stretch Mark/Tummy Butter/Balm in the Beauty Shortlist Baby Awards 2014. It was also Highly Commended for Best New Body Care Product in the Pure Beauty Awards 2014. It has been featured in Natural Health magazine, Country & Town House and Cosmopolitan – twice. Everyone who tries this product has one thing in common, we all love it.
So what is Tamanu?
“The Tamanu plant’s incredible properties were first discovered by the Polynesian communities many centuries ago, and have since been used to treat anything from cuts, insect bites & acne to psoriasis, sunburn & particularly scars.”
“Our Tamanu Balm is a must have skin saviour that combines the super-healing powers of the Tamanu plant, the protection of Monoi Butter and the soothing effects of Organic Cranberry Seed & Blackcurrant Seed Oils to create a gorgeous green balm that repairs scarred & damaged skin.” (tropicskincare.com)
This award winning, highly commended wonder product was a must-have for me. I have a few marks on my jaw line left from breakouts but what influenced me to buy this product most are the marks I have been left with after carrying my beautiful daughter for 9 months (and 6 days). I’m sure I’m not alone as a woman who looked in the mirror and wondered how will I ever dare to bare again? My stretch marks were particularly aggressive looking dark purple and deep red stripes which covered my entire lower tummy and sides. Of course, I would not complain as I have been blessed with the gift of a beautiful child. However, I was left feeling pretty self-conscious and my self-esteem took a bit of a knock. After seeing this product was recommended by other mums I hoped it would work for me. My only regret is that I did not have Tamanu Balm to use on my pregnant belly as I believe there is a possibility my marks could be less extreme than they are.
The packaging remains true to Tropic in its simplicity; however the metallic lid and thick set jar give a quality high end feel. The Balm itself is a wonderful avocado green which instantly connotes health and wellbeing. Paired with the trademark fresh organic scent which all Tropic products host, I could not wait to get stuck in. The texture is thick and almost like a set wax which softens as you work it in your hands.
I have been using this product for over a month now and I am so pleased with the results. I apply the Balm after a bath and before I go to bed at night and I am always surprised when I change in the morning that I can still feel the Balm on my skin. The Balm is so healing and nourishing, you can almost feel it protecting and fixing your skin. It may seem a little pricey, but unlike other creams you can still feel the effects of this one over 12 hours later. It does not rub off, it does not sink in too fast and simply disappear – Tamanu Balm stays and works over time. For this reason I do think it is value for money.
Are my stretch marks completely gone? No.
Do I want them to be? No.I am happy to wear my marks with pride as a mother.
However , am I pleased my dark purple and deep red scars have now turned to a subtle pink line? Definitely.
